So one day, my 18 pound orange cat terrorized a dreamcatcher I've had since a 1993 family vacation to Arizona. I knew what must be done! So off to the craft store I went. After much confusion, kicking my cat out of my room, and half of a Led Zeppelin album, Voila! My first masterpiece was complete. Well, not so much. It was sort of rubbish, but I fell in love with the art of it.
That night I started rummaging through my junk drawers for broken bits of jewelry and odds and ends to make more unique dreamcatchers, and I guess I've never stopped.
I just love the idea that there are so many possibilities with dreamcatchers. I love that almost any found trinket or scrap of fabric can be worked into a unique display of art.
The yarn, some beads, and hoops usually come from the craft store, but pretty much everything else is scavenged from thrift stores, flea markets, and antique stores. That is part of the fun for me. When I can find and old rusty skeleton key in a box at an antique store, or vintage, delicate lace in my grandmas basement, I can't wait to give it new life!
I've always been a huge fan of details, and like to add these into my pieces. Each one has a story.
All in all, making dreamcatchers makes me happy. I have a lot of fun doing it. And I think the whole point is to just do what makes you happy!
